Rail innovation takes centre stage at GCRE

The Global Centre of Rail Excellence (GCRE) in South Wales will host a showcase of cutting-edge railway construction projects next month. The Innovation in Railway Construction Demonstration Day, in partnership with Innovate UK, takes place on Thursday, 20th March.

The event will feature twelve pioneering projects developed through the £7.4m Innovation in Railway Construction Programme, funded by the UK Government’s Department of Business and Trade and organised by Innovate UK. The GCRE is providing the infrastructure for these projects to be tested and demonstrated.

Attendees will have the opportunity to witness live installations and explore the technologies developed through the programme. The event is expected to attract key stakeholders from across Europe, highlighting the GCRE’s potential as a world-leading hub for rail and mobility research, testing, and innovation.

GCRE Ltd Director of Strategy, Skills and Operations, Rob Forde said: “At the demonstration day industry stakeholders and key contacts from across Europe will be in attendance to see the projects we are hosting and to understand the truly international potential of the Global Centre of Rail Excellence as a site for world class rail and mobility research, testing and showcasing.

“The Global Centre of Rail Excellence is a new, purpose-built facility being constructed in South Wales that has the potential to become Europe’s leading centre for rail and sustainable mobility innovation, providing a range of services unique across the continent. We’re looking forward to using the day to show what is possible at GCRE.”

GCRE Ltd Head of Innovation Kelvin Davies said: “It has been fantastic to see the ideas developed through the Innovation in Railway Construction programme and to watch projects coming to life at the site. The demonstration day we will be holding in March will help highlight that important work for a wider audience.

“We have a limited number of places available for people to attend the day and would encourage people to register a place.”
